When it comes to managing your files, you can stick with the built-in tool that the Microsoft Windows operating system has to offer, mainly Windows Explorer, or you can go with a third party file manager that has plenty of extra functionality to offer, such as the Dunes MultimMedia-developed WinNC, a tabbed file manager that Norton Commander users will immediately feel at home with.

The WinNC installation file is of 11.7MB, which isn’t much for a high-speed internet connection. Downloading said installation file will not take much of your time. Installing it on a Windows-powered machine (it is recommended that you install WinNC on top of Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7) is a simple process that involves following the steps presented by a setup wizard. You will get to choose one of the many languages that WinNC supports, choose the installation directory, and choose if you want a desktop shortcut or not. It will take little of your time to install WinNC as well.

If you have ever used Norton Commander or another dual pane file manager, then you shouldn't have any problems with WinNC’s interface and you would immediately feel at home. And if the dual pane is not enough, then you need to know that you can take each panel and divide it into multiple tabs.

WinNC comes with all the features you would expect from a properly good file manager and then some: copy, move edit, search, rename, compress/decompress, ZIP and mail, encrypt/decrypt, split and merge files, compare files/folders, convert audio, FTP connection, burn data, sync data, access the console, easy access to the task manager, and more. All the tools and all the functionality you would expect to get from a file manager are there for you to enjoy.

Speaking of which, you can enjoy the functionality WinNC has to offer for free for an evaluation period of 45 days. Once that trial period is over, you will have to get a license to keep using the application.

If you’re looking for a software application that provides properly good file management tools for the advanced computer users, get WinNC.

Pros

Provides support for numerous languages. Works with XP, Vista, and Windows 7. Has a dual pane interface that is easy to figure out. Provides all the file management functionality you need and some handy extras.

Cons

Free to use for an evaluation period of 45 days.
